Job Description

Title: Traffic Engineer

Location: Phoenix

PR: 75-80/hr

Type: 12 month Contract with extensions

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

4+ years of experience related to traffic engineering principles and practices

Comfortable collaborating with internal stakeholders and outside partners to enforce department policies and initiatives

Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other systems related to traffic data

Experience with transportation safety specific to school zones and traffic volume

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Professional Engineer certification (PE)

Previous State or Local industry experience

EIT - ability to sit for PE

Job Description

Responsible for leading a section within the Traffic Division, this role oversees the planning, design, and implementation of traffic signal programs and traffic control systems. The position ensures safe and efficient traffic flow through data-driven analysis, engineering design, and team supervision.

Lead and manage a team of professional and paraprofessional engineering staff in the development and execution of traffic signal and control projects.

Supervise the preparation of engineering plans, maps, charts, and diagrams related to traffic systems.

Review and approve technical work including traffic surveys, data analysis, and construction inspections.

Analyze complex traffic engineering problems and develop or oversee the development of improvement plans.

Conduct field observations of traffic markings and control devices to ensure compliance and effectiveness.

Design traffic control plans to enhance safety and optimize traffic flow.

Direct studies on traffic conditions, including volume analysis, accident trends, and parking utilization; prepare and present findings and recommendations.

Address public inquiries and complaints related to traffic issues; collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to resolve concerns.

Represent the department in inter-agency meetings and technical discussions as assigned.

Provide expert input in legal matters related to traffic engineering when required.

Promote a culture of customer service, innovation, and operational efficiency.

Maintain consistent and reliable attendance and availability, including flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed.
