About KiwiCo:

KiwiCo is an innovative eCommerce company dedicated to sparking creativity and curiosity in kids (and kids at heart!). Through both online and offline materials, we provide fun and engaging ways for kids to explore, create, and learn. Our primary offering is a subscription service where we deliver "whoa awesome," hands-on projects to kids. We also manage an e-commerce storefront and a content platform to inspire and educate. We take great pride and ownership in the products we build and in the community of parents and kids we serve.

Our office is located in Mountain View, CA within walking distance to the Caltrain station. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with 3-4 office days per week (depending on your team) and the remainder of the week working remotely.

About the Job:

We are looking for a Technical Illustrator who is passionate about bringing our brand, our products, and our work to life through illustrations. You will be creating and delivering illustrations for build instructions and how to use our products. It's a rich and rewarding position that directly shapes our customers' experiences and engages our young customers. This is a contract-to-hire position.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Illustrate build instructions for a variety of science and art projects
• Communicate information concisely and accurately through your illustrations
• Have strong perspective skills while still maintaining a kid-friendly style in Adobe Illustrator
• Incorporate feedback from our user testing sessions to ensure customer success
• Ensure that style and editorial guidelines are followed
• Collaborate closely with the Editorial, Graphic Design and Product Design teams to ensure that the illustrations are as accurate and clear as possible

Required Qualifications:

• 2-4+ years experience in technical illustration
• Proven track record working in a production environment, meeting deadlines, and incorporating feedback
• Strong ability to interpret sketches and concepts from engineers and copywriters, and translate them into clear technical illustrations and diagrams
• Self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment and meet changing deadlines and priorities on simultaneous projects
• Resourceful: you see a project from idea stage to successful completion - and do whatever it takes to make it a success - You are an innovative thinker and can solve problems creatively
• Detail-oriented: we move quickly, but we bring care and thoughtfulness to everything we do - We care deeply about the details.
• Versatile: adept at working in various established house styles
• Collaborative: ability to work well within cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization; a positive force on the team who can bring our product to the next level
• Broad operating range: capable of connecting illustration work to broader business objectives while maintaining a love for precision and design finesse
• Driven: enthusiastic about hands-on work and passionate about character and illustration design

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in children's product preferred
• Strong design and art skills with a fresh aesthetic sense
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
• Working knowledge of techniques
• Experience in character design and development
