About The Team The Webapp Infra (WIN) pillar provides tools for developers to work in a multi-million line codebase safely and productively. WIN handles maintenance and upgrades of the Hack programming language, static analysis tooling, widely used libraries, asynchronous job queue, and tuning/debugging of the HHVM runtime and its services. The Core Libraries sub?team focuses on maintaining and developing the Webapp API, language tooling, and enabling co?development with infrastructure and product features. What You Will Be Doing Collaborate with peers across Engineering to triage bugs and troubleshoot complex production issues, especially concerning performance, memory, and stability. Write, review, or provide feedback on technical design proposals. Maintain client libraries that give backend engineers access to all Webapp platform capabilities. Work with Webapp Hack Language static analysis tooling (Hakana), health score tooling, legacy code migration, metadata insights (Census), and error tooling infra (Sieve). Own the direction and growth of Webapp standard libraries and Core Service client, covering encryption, storage, caching, and other features. Engage Webapp customers through NPS surveys, interviews, best?practice sharing, and developer advocacy to understand challenges faced by product developers at Slack. What You Should Have Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, distributed systems. Systems thinking: reason about queues, retries, concurrency, contention to build useful models. Experience with Linux and common debugging/profiling tools. 810?years building large?scale systems and a portfolio of past work. Experience improving performance and reliability of complex systems. Experience with SaaS deploymentsdeployed code to live production environments safely and efficiently. Comfort in low?guardrail situations and driving improvements. Write clear, maintainable code. Strong communication skills, explaining complex concepts to diverse audiences. Leadership in cross?functional projects and setting systems architecture vision. Curiosity, eagerness to investigate issues, and ability to resolve them. Mentoring and coaching engineers, giving constructive feedback. Bonus Points Experience with Hack, HHVM, or open?source contributions. Proven record building and leading codebases or open?source teams. Track record in dev advocacy and user?focused progress. Experience profiling/debugging systems software (runtime, database, web server, VM, OS). Built a team from the ground up and established norms and feedback loops.
