POSITION TITLE: ELEMENTARY PROGRAM SPECIALIST- ENGLISH
REPORTS TO: COORDINATOR of READING AND ENGLISH
OVERTIME STATUS: EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 374
JOB SUMMARY: Performs difficult professional and intermediate administrative work coordinating, planning, and assisting with instructional programs in the area of English or related subject matter; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator of English. Limited supervision may be exercised over teachers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Coordinating the development, implementation, and coordination of curriculum and
programs in the area of specialty.
? Maintains current knowledge of development, materials, and techniques in assigned subject
area;
- Develops curriculum and assessment instruments;
- Assists with organizing and directing curriculum committees in the review, development,
and alignment of K-6 curricula;
- Assists with the textbook adoption process;
- Interprets curriculum revisions, innovations, and programs in the subject area;
- Assists with the reinforcement of research-based teaching practices as well as evidence-based and science-based instruction;
Models instructional best practices and strategies to build teacher capacity in all elementary schools;
Assists with and conducts professional development activities and demonstration
lessons;
- Works collaboratively with building administrators;
- Works collaboratively with Title I Literacy Coaches and Title I Interventionists;
- Observes and provides timely feedback to teachers;
- Makes regular school visits;
- Assists with the recruitment of teachers;
- Attends staff and related meetings;
Works with students as needed;

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in the development, design, and implementation of instruction and classroom management; comprehensive knowledge of the area specialty; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school principals, other staff, and the general public; ability to use technology, etc.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a
a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in an appropriate education specialty supplemented by a Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching is a prerequisite for this position. Prior experience as an instructional coach is preferred. Strong knowledge of elementary education. A Reading Specialist endorsement is required. Highly qualified candidates that do not yet have the Reading Specialist endorsement will have three years to obtain the endorsement. If, at the end of the three-year time frame, the endorsement is not earned, the candidate will not be renewed for the K-6 Program Specialist position.
