Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).Principal duties include patient education, treatment initiation and monitoring, vascular access evaluation and cannulation, administration of heparin, vital signs monitoring, documentation, infection control, and participation in transitional care unit activities. The role also involves staff training assistance, record keeping, and adherence to infection control policies. Physical demands include frequent standing, lifting up to 40 lbs with assistance, and working in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious materials.Education and licenses required include a High School diploma or G.E.D., meeting CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements, and any appropriate state licensure, education, and training. Previous patient care experience preferred. Continued employment depends on successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification.Additional responsibilities in the Home Therapies Program include assisting the Home Therapies RN, patient education reinforcement, scheduling, vital signs collection, lab preparation, clerical duties, home hemodialysis machine setup, exit site care assistance, and inventory management.The position requires travel between assigned facilities and community locations, and may require travel to regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings.
