Packaging Engineer
Coppell, TX (Fully onsite)
12 months contract with the possible extension

Role Overview:

This role is a packaging engineering position focused on structural packaging for cell phones, including unit boxes and master cartons. The engineer will manage suppliers, review packaging designs and prototypes, coordinate testing, and support production line issues, while handling multiple projects in parallel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage suppliers for structural packaging (unit boxes, master cartons).
  • Request prototypes from suppliers, review dimensions, fit checks.
  • Oversee in-house testing and review test results.
  • Troubleshoot production line issues and communicate with suppliers.
  • Coordinate multiple projects (typically ~8 weeks each), including new product introductions and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and occasionally customers.
  • Maintain strong communication via conference calls and emails .

Day-to-Day Focus:

  • Mostly project management / launch coordination .
  • 2D CAD : Used as needed for drawing updates (not daily), but non-negotiable , candidate must know some 2D CAD (team will not teach from scratch).
  • Cape palletization software : Nice-to-have; similar to TOPS. Can learn via YouTube if strong technical aptitude.
  • Nice-to-have, Familiarity with retail packaging processes.

 

Top 3 Non-Negotiable Skills:

  • Project management skills (prioritization, multi-project handling).
  • Basic 2D CAD proficiency (any software; must be able to adapt quickly).
  • Strong English communication (calls, emails, cross-functional/vendor interaction).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree : A bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering preferred; Mechanical/Industrial acceptable.
  • Electrical only if candidate has retail packaging experience (not PCB/semiconductor).
  • Experience : Junior candidates okay (internships or ~1 year experience); early-career with strong PM fundamentals acceptable if Mech/Industrial background.
  • Master’s degree’s is also acceptable.
  • Non-local candidates : Allowed if relocating at own expense.
  • Cape or TOPS software experience.

Disqualifiers:

  • PCB/semiconductor packaging experience only.
  • Aircraft packaging experience only.
  • Computer Science degrees (not relevant).
