Be among the first 25 applicants. Able to identify abnormalities and alert charge nurse. Assisting in basic desk duties. Applies learned principles in coordinating activities directed at assisting the surgical team in the implementation of care. Assisting licensed personnel in the delivery of patient care activities and related non‑professional services. Responsibilities Provide daily physical and emotional care to patients (bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc.). Transport patients as needed. Answer call lights in a timely fashion and assist licensed personnel as directed. Alert nursing personnel to changes in patient condition or needs. Maintain daily logs (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, eye washing stations, nitrazine controls). Keep environment neat and tidy, including patient care areas and utility areas. Maintain stock and order supplies when necessary. Prepare rooms in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each procedure. Check all equipment and instruments needed prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning; check supplies for outdates. Follow aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures; carry out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments/procedures. Assist in positioning, prepping and draping patients for surgical procedures. Accurately complete operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles); follow proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; report all discrepancies to circulating nurse and surgeon and/or correct immediately. Always maintain an orderly and sterile instrument table for efficiency. Anticipate needs of surgeon during intraoperative phase. Fully responsible for care of instruments and equipment during intra‑postoperative phase, including cleaning and processing of instruments. Demonstrate competence in care of specimens and accurately handle specimens at all times. Protect patient sensitivities and right to privacy; observe patients with minimal disturbance. Maintain a safe environment for patient, co‑workers and self per hospital policies and procedures. Interact professionally with physicians and co‑workers. Display prompt, courteous and accurate telephone skills; collaborate with other nursing team members to maintain equipment and supplies. Demonstrate awareness of cost containment and economic use of patient supplies. Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for patient benefit. Actively participate in quality improvement activities. Contribute to 24‑hour coverage of the maternity unit for emergency cesarean deliveries. Maintain desk and lab supplies for the unit. Assist patient through the continuum by ensuring admission, transfer and discharge procedures are carried out. Perform any other duties as assigned. Qualifications / Requirements One year experience as a surgical technician desirable; clinical experience in a healthcare facility. High School diploma. Graduated from accredited Surgical Technology Program (unless meets grandfathered‑in criteria). Current Surgical Technology Certification or achievement of certification within 12 months of graduating from a surgical technology program (unless meets grandfathered‑in criteria). Understanding of aseptic technique and infection control. Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Current Surgical Technology Certification or achievement of certification within 12 months of graduating from a surgical technology program (unless meets grandfathered‑in criteria). BLS Certification. 15 hours of continuing education annually related to surgical technology. C.N.A. preferred.
