Medical Office Assistant – Full-Time

Virginia Beach, VA

$16.00 – $17.00 per hour to start, with opportunities for advancement and bonuses

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a full-time  Medical Office Assistant to join our team in Chesapeake, VA. This on-site position requires a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a  fast-paced medical office setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and strong communication skills while balancing multiple administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in person or via phone with professionalism and warmth
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, ensuring efficient use of provider time and treatment rooms
  • Maintain patient records, update demographic and insurance information accurately
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility; determine if prior authorization is required
  • Collect copays and balances at check-in/check-out and record financial transactions
  • Prepare paperwork prior to patient visits and follow up on no-shows
  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area
  • Protect patient confidentiality and uphold HIPAA standards
  • Support the clinical and administrative team by participating in special projects as needed
  • Respond to emergencies and assist distressed patients as necessary
  • Demonstrate superior customer service and a team-oriented attitude at all times

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree (Required)
  • 1–3 years of medical clerical or secretarial experience (Required)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and HIPAA regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Electronic Medical Records (preferred)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent patient interaction
  • Typing speed of 65 WPM or higher
