Job Description And Duties This advertisement is for a Jewish Chaplain position located at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown, Tuolumne County. Under the general direction of the Community Resources Manager, CI (CRM), the Chaplain is responsible for the spiritual and moral guidance of the institutional residents of the Jewish community at Sierra Conservation Center. The Chaplain conducts Jewish religious services and programs; conducts interviews and counsels the incarcerated people on ethical, moral and spiritual matters. The Chaplain also organizes and instructs classes in religion, ethics, marriage and family. The Chaplain ministers formal services, counseling to incarcerated people and to staff as requested; volunteer development, liaison and supervision; solicitation, purchases, ordering and distribution of religious materials, literature; selection of incarcerated people in Main Facility and Facility C; supervision of incarcerated people congregations during religious services. Working Conditions About this location – Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country. It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.). The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park. The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California. Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES – National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
