  • Position Summary
  • The Housing Advocate is a vital member of CAFYs HOME Program, providing support to individuals and families facing homelessness or housing insecurity due to domestic violence or related issues. This role involves direct client services, community engagement, and advocacy to enhance access to safe, affordable housing, acting as a case manager and liaison.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Client Support and Case Management**
  • - Conduct intake assessments and develop housing stability plans.
  • - Assist with navigating housing systems, applications, and tenant rights.
  • - Provide trauma-informed case management to promote housing retention.
  • - Accompany clients to housing-related appointments as needed.
  • - Offer referrals for employment, healthcare, legal aid, and financial assistance.
Advocacy and Community Engagement**
  • Advocate for clients in landlord negotiations and eviction prevention.
  • Build relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing authorities.
  • Attend meetings to represent organizational interests and vulnerable populations.
  • Identify barriers to housing and assist in policy reform efforts.
  • Educate clients and the community on housing rights through workshops.
Non-Profit Operations and Collaboration
  • Maintain case documentation and reports for funders and program evaluation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for holistic service delivery.
  • Participate in team meetings and support fundraising and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 13 years in housing services, nonprofit advocacy, or community organizing.
  • Knowledge of housing issues, social justice, and crisis intervention.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bilingual preferred; familiarity with housing systems and tenant law is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
  • - Salary: $40,000 $42,500 based on experience.
  • - Benefits: medical/dental/vision insurance, PTO, 401K, self-care days, and a 4-day work week.
Work Environment
  • Hybrid work setting: 3 days in-office and 1 remote day; occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
