Position: Wargame Designer / Developer Location: Norfolk, VA Security Clearance: Secret Shape the Future of Wargaming with NATO We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Wargame Designer / Developer to support the design and development of wargames that address critical military and strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with game sponsors and directors to define key elements, including: Purpose (aim) and theme. Game objectives and research questions. Number and level of participants. Time and other constraints. Conduct in-depth research to support wargame design, focusing on: Existing games with similar themes (commercial or professional). Relevant academic or professional writings and doctrines. Applicable wargame designs or mechanics. Other relevant sources to inform wargame development. Design and adapt core rules and mechanics for wargames. Create essential components and implements for game execution, including: Maps, game boards, markers, and pieces. Adjudication tools and rules. Any additional physical or digital materials required for gameplay. Coordinate closely with analysts, scenario developers, and game directors to ensure game mechanics align with sponsor objectives. Conduct at least one full playtest of the wargame, refining rules and mechanics as necessary before execution. Prepare and present detailed design and development briefs to game directors. Provide support for wargame facilitation during events as required. Undertake any additional design or development tasks related to EWB-supported wargames, as directed by the game director or COTR. Citizenship: Must hold the nationality of one of NATO’s member countries. Experience Demonstrated professional wargame design and development experience within the last 5 years, particularly at the military strategic and operational levels across all DIME (Diplomatic, Information, Military, and Economic) domains. Proven expertise in applying wargaming techniques to address specific analytical problems over the past 5-10 years. Successful delivery of wargaming projects within the last 5 years. Skills Strong proficiency in oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multinational teams. Familiarity with NATO operations and processes. Proficiency in English, as defined by STANAG 6001 (SLP 4444) or equivalent. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, collaborative software, and Microsoft Visio.
