About the Department of Chronic Disease Epidemiology The Department currently has 15 faculty whose research fields include cancer, cardiovascular disease, perinatal and maternal child health, nutrition, exercise and obesity, global health, aging, genetic epidemiology, injury, and health disparities.The department faculty serve as principal investigators of approximately $9M of extramurally funded research annually, lead several T32s, and work across the full spectrum of translational research. The department has vibrant educational programs at both the MPH and PhD level with a focus on research and leadership in the field. Approximately 80 MPH and 12 PhD students are enrolled in CDE each year. The MPH graduates go on to a variety of careers in epidemiology and public health leadership in the application of science to the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. The PhD program counts among its alumnus faculty and leadership at YSPH and peer schools of public health, leadership roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and State Departments of Health.
