The Superintendent invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of CONFIDENTIAL SPECIAL ASSISTANT – INSTRUCTIONAL supporting the work of the School Leadership Team.

DEFINITION:
The Confidential Special Assistant - Instructional will serve as a liaison, point of contact and primary support individual between the School Leadership Team (“SLT”) and the designated schools served by the SLT to ensure that students receive outstanding instructional support and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Confidential Special Assistant - Instructional will support the work of the SLT by:
  • Implementing strategic initiatives in alignment with the District’s vision for instructional practices, consisting of a minimum of 75% of worktime at SLT schools supporting, coaching and mentoring school administrators.

  • Focusing school administrators on student outcomes and teacher quality while assisting with management of school resources, including identifying appropriate additional resources when necessary to meet the instructional needs of school.

  • Working with school administrators to establish specific and targeted student performance goals and metrics.

  • Supporting school administrators with implication and management of required panels and committees under the NTU labor agreement (e.g., School Improvement Panel, Curriculum Committee, Framework Evaluation Committee, School Leadership Council, Professional Learning Community, etc.).

  • Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for SLT school administrators to enhance knowledge and skills in instructional leadership and evaluation of teacher quality.

  • Provides technical assistance to school administrators and teachers.

  • Conducting regular formal and informal classroom walk-throughs aligned to student achievement and strategic goals.

  • Evaluation of teaching staff, as necessary.

  • Assists with daily school operations, including managing school-based schedules, coordinating events, and maintaining records as directed by the School Leadership Team.

  • Serves as liaison between school leaders with operational departments including, budgeting, purchasing, human resource services, facilities, security and safety as well as inventory management, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of the SLT.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of instructional best practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across multiple schools and classrooms.

  • Knowledge of standard and innovative teacher training practice and considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and coordination methods as they apply to education program management.

  • Deep understanding of pedagogy and experience in using data to drive results.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, teachers and other school site personnel.

  • Ability to prepare clear, concise correspondence and reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Five (5) years of teaching experience, plus three (3) years of administrative experience.

  • Principal Standard Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.

Salary : Commensurate with background and experience
Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
