Job Description

Job Title: Program Intern – Religious Life & Spiritual Care Department

Location: The New Jewish Home in Manhattan, 120 West 106th Street, New York, NY 10025

Position Summary

The Program Intern supports the Religious Life & Spiritual Care Department in the delivery of religious services and spiritual programming for residents of The New Jewish Home. This role is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transport of residents to and from religious services and programs. They may provide general programmatic support including set up of services and programs as assigned by the Department Head to ensure smooth execution of departmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport residents to and from religious services, programs, and related activities in a safe, respectful, and timely manner.
  • Provide on-site support during services and programs, including resident assistance and general facilitation as needed.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, and clergy.
  • Maintain a calm, compassionate, and professional demeanor while working with residents of varying physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Adhere to all institutional policies, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards.

Supervision

The Adult Program Intern reports directly to the Head of the Religious Life & Spiritual Care Department or their designee.

Schedule

Schedule to be determined based on departmental needs and intern availability; may include weekends and Jewish holidays.

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to assist residents with mobility needs, in accordance with safety guidelines and training provided.
  • Interest in religious life, spiritual care, pastoral work, or communal programming.
  • Experience working with older adults or in a healthcare or residential setting preferred, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage respectfully with residents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to follow direction in a structured environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk throughout the facility and assist with resident transport.
  • Ability to push wheelchairs and stand for extended periods as required during services and programs.
