Job Description

Position: Adult Education Teacher Reports to: Principal Position Type: Part-time, In-person, online, and hybrid roles available, Up to 20 hours per week based on assignment Openings for: ESL Beginning High (Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (4 days/week, 3 hours/day, total 12 hours/week) ESL Beginning High (Monday and Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (2 nights/week, 3 hours/night, total 6 hours/week) ESL Beginning High (Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (2 nights/week, 3 hours/night, total 6 hours/week) ESL Intermediate High (Monday and Wednesday, 6:00pm-9:00pm (2 evenings/week, 3 hours/evening, 6 hours/week) Candidates may apply for multiple positions. The Role SSFUSD is seeking a dynamic, equity-focused, and inclusive classroom teacher to join our school community. As a teacher in SSFUSD, responsibilities include but are not limited to: Providing exceptional instruction, aligned to the Portrait of a Graduate, including: Developing rigorous lessons aligned to College and Career Standards for Adult Education and English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education Setting ambitious goals with students and monitoring their progress while encouraging them through frequent and persistent feedback Tracking student growth, using data and feedback, and creating individualized student plans when there are areas of concern Building relationships with students by providing regular and consistent communication Creating a physical classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development of students Facilitating learning experiences for students that are engaging and rigorous Collaborating with other teachers and school leaders on daily lessons, school-wide programs, and individualized student plans Meeting regular deadlines for daily lesson plans, submitting grades, and work samples Working on a team of teachers and school leader to provide consistency, support, and accountability to all students Engaging in professional development Engagement with and participation in the greater school community through attending events and activities Additional duties as assigned Schedules for adult education teachers vary from mornings (e.g. 9:00 am - 1:00 pm daily) to evenings (e.g. 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Monday and Wednesday).Schedules vary on courses offered and student needs. Adult education teachers in SSFUSD are eligible for tenure after working for two years (a minimum of 18 hours/week each year) as a probationary teacher. Requirements Must haves: California designated subjects credential for adult education or single subject credential with adult education authorization English Learner (EL) Authorization Belief in and commitment to the mission and vision of SSFUSD Ability to design and implement rich, engaging, and culturally relevant teaching units Experience and/or knowledge of adult education learning theory and practice Knowledge of California State Standards for Adult Education Experience using technology to teach in a variety of settings (online, hybrid, in-person) preferred Ability to differentiate lessons for learners with different assets A dedication to learn, grow, and develop as a professional Legal authorization to work in the United States. Test results: Please attach California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) results and evidence of meeting Basic Skills Requirement, such as California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), Praxis, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) results. Proof of English Learner (EL) Authorization or Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate or letter of appeasement from university where certificate is being pursued Proof of credential or enrollment in credentialing program - attachment should either include number assigned by California Commission on Teaching Credentialing (CTC) or letter of appeasement from university where credential is being pursued Effective January 1, 2025: Under Education Code section 44939.5, you must provide a complete list of all prior employment with any Local Education Agency (LEA), including school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, or state special schools, including part-time and substitute roles. Please note that if you are extended an offer from SSFUSD, you will also need to complete the following prior to beginning work, including training : Provide clearance of TB test, as mandated by California Education code.
